A rifle brandishing bandit opened fire inside a Strathmore gas bar early Saturday before making off with a haul of cash and cigarettes.

RCMP said two men walked into a 7-Eleven gas bar about 2:10 a.m., one of them carrying a long rifle that was then pointed at staff and customers.

After an employee handed over money and cigarettes, the rifle wielding robber opened fire twice inside the store in "the general direction of the staff member," Mounties said.

No one was hurt during the heist and the men fled from the store into a waiting vehicle.

Police have released surveillance photos of the suspects in hopes of generating leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
