Gas prices fell in Newfoundland and Labrador Thursday, offering drivers some relief after a two-year high setting last week.

The Public Utilities Board (PUB) dropped the maximum price of gasoline by 3.6 cents a litre on Thursday, the first drop of the new year.

As a result, the maximum price of a litre of self-serve unleaded gas on the Avalon Peninsula is now $1.38.

That price is down from $1.415, which was the highest point since 2014. Thursday marked only the second decrease in maximum prices since the end of November.

In Cartwright, the same litre of gasoline costs $1.547.

Across the province, the maximum price of diesel motor fuel fell by a 3 cents per litre. Furnace oil heating fuel went down 2.41 cents a litre and stove oil heating fuel fell 2.62…

It's official: Donald Trump is the most powerful man on earth. The 45th president of the United States was sworn in on Friday in Washington, D.C., as outgoing president Barack Obama looked on. But it seems the turnout was much smaller at Trump's inauguration than Obama's first swearing-in ceremony in 2009, which drew in 1.8 million people. A combination of photos taken at the National Mall shows the crowds attending the inauguration ceremonies to swear in U.S. President Donald Trump at…
