While fans of the fantasy TV series can enjoy a new series of Game of Thrones on a weekly basis, the wait for a new book takes considerably longer.

The last time Martin released a book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series was 2011.

With many interviews and conventions connected to the TV show to attend, the author has missed numerous deadline.

However the 68-year-old has now spoken out about when the much coveted release will be.

George RR Martin's last Game of Thrones book was released in 2011

Yesterday Martin gave the update in response to a reader on his LiveJournal blog.

He said: “Not done yet, but I’ve made progress.

“But not as much as I hope a year ago, when I thought to be done by now.

“I think it will be out this year. But I thought the same thing last year.”

Previously fans were excited when Amazon France listed the book with a March 9, 2017 release.

However this was later taken down and dismissed by Martin himself.

The author has been writing his seven book series for over 20 years now, with The Winds of Winter being the penultimate novel.

As I’ve said before, the publishing industry needs to get beyond the current “print or digital” mindset and instead explore ways for one to complement the other. Plenty of industry stats show that most readers are comfortable with either format and that many prefer the convenience of switching between the two (e.g., reading the news digitally but mostly sticking with print books). After several years of going exclusively digital with […] The post Here’s Another Way Digital Could Compl…

Acting came in handy. She knew how to cut a dash, draw the gaze, and deflect it. An air of vagueness – and a celebrated stuffed buffalo in the hall of her house – fed into constricted ideas about women who write books. Big brain or scatterbrain? While these are good practices to start with going forward, there is also a need to revisit the backlist often with these same ideas in mind. Marketing copy can always be revised, and the most sensible element to update isn’t the book description, but […] The post The Importance of Revisiting and Refreshing Backlist …
