Hornchurch claimed a two-wicket win over Essex League Premier Division rivals Chingford with two balls to spare at Harrow Lodge Park.

Chingford’s Alfie Taylor chose to bat after winning the toss, but Billy Gordon and Mehad Khan struck with the new ball to leave his side 9-2.

Taqi Abbas (3-25) then ended an 83-run stand with a run out and claimed three wickets to make it 135-6.

But Hornchurch were held up by the lower order, who saw out the overs to see Chingford close on 207-9 after Zeeshan Khan nabbed 2-45.

The home side lost Jamie Sorrell cheaply in reply, but Ronnie Saunders hit 35 from 44 balls.

Hornchurch slipped from 57-1 to 66-4, as Gordon and Zeeshan Khan fell cheaply, but returning captain Roy Smith put on 124 with South African Brian Barnard, who hit three sixes and five fours in his 65 off 57 balls.

Four wickets fell for seven runs, before the experienced Smith (66 not out) sealed victory win for his side.
