The 59-year-old’s beloved mother Annie, sadly passed away in 2012 after being diagnosed with mouth cancer over 20 years before.

And in a heart-wrenching clip, the former Loose Women panelist admitted her family was “lucky” to have so much time with Annie as she was only given 12 months to live after her first diagnosis in 1991.

Speaking about the disease, Denise revealed she became "complacent" as her mother overcome her initial prognosis after enduring a 13 hour surgery to remove the tumour.

However in 2001, she received a second mouth cancer diagnosis during a regular check up.

Denise said: “Even when it was really bad mum refused to admit she was in pain. Her mouth would be covered in ulcers but she never complained once. I think I got a little complacent - we all did - because we had her for so long after her first diagnosis."

Describing the moment she lost her beloved parent, the actress added:

“Mum passed away surrounded by her family. She kind of went into a 24-hour-long sleep with moments of lucidity, so she was peaceful and knew we were all there – kids, grandkids, and our partners."

The mother-of-two acknowledged if it wasn't for cancer research she wouldn't have had her mother for those last 20 years and is "eternally grateful" for everyone who helped.
