The Superior High School softball team received the No. 4 seed for the WIAA Division 1 playoffs and will host No. 13 Wausau East on Wednesday.

If the Spartans win, they will host the winner of Marshfield and New Richmond on Friday, May 26.

Superior’s game at Hermantown on Wednesday was postponed until 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The game with the Hawks was originally scheduled April 25, but was called because of rain with the score tied 0-0 and Hermantown batting with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Spartans, who defeated Ashland 21-0 in three innings Thursday evening, canceled Saturday’s doubleheader with Menomonie.

Boys golf

The Spartans hosted the Lake Superior Conference championships Wednesday at the Nemadji Golf Course.

Hermantown won the overall team title with a score of 644. Wednesday’s score of 330 included 163 on the East and 167 on the West.

The Spartans finished in third place at 689. Wednesday’s score of 344 included 171 on the East and 173 on the West.

Kiefer Eales led the Spartans with an 82. Taylor Burger was right behind at 84.

Ashland’s Gavin Douglas took medalist honors with a 78.

Douglas is also the overall point winner with 49 points. Hermantown’s Dylan Kolquist is second with 45 points and Cloquet’s Matt Rodovich has 40 points. Burger led Superior with 18 points.

Superior wraps up the regular season at today’s Virginia Invitational.

The WIAA Division 1 regional is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Richmond.

The Spartans lost 5-2 Monday at Hermantown.

June Jang and Kaleb Ullan picked up Superior’s wins.

Jang defeated Reid Johnson 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles and Ullan downed Drake Jonas 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

The Spartans’ match with Ashland was rained out Tuesday and will be made up at 4:15 p.m. today at the Superior Middle School courts.
