    New Jersey (NJ)

We've reached the second leg of horse racing's Triple Crown and after a Kentucky Derby raced on a sloppy track there's optimism from all the owners and trainers of the 10 horses entered in the 2017 Preakness Stakes. Derby winner Always Dreaming is the favorite, but it should be a very good race.

All eyes turn to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Saturday at roughly 6:45 p.m. as the Preakness Stakes takes center stage.

With so many casual observers checking out the race -- and many hitting up OTBs or the betting windows at Freehold Raceway or Monmouth Park -- we thought it would be helpful to offer our staff predictions for the Preakness. After we saw how our Derby picks fared, we wanted a second chance to prove we're more than casual observers. Of course, some of us are "casual observers."

Stephen Edelson (@SteveEdelsonAPP): Conquest Mo Money-Always Dreaming-Classic Empire

This is the annual juncture in the Triple Crown where trainers start throwing fresh horses at the Kentucky Derby combatants, which is one of the reasons it’s so difficult to complete the Triple Crown. Along those lines, Conquest Mo Money has had five weeks off since finishing second behind Classic Empire in the Arkansas Derby. Conquest Mo Money will be on the lead, and at a mile-and-3/16 the shorter distance means he has a chance to stay there.

Kevin Steimle (@kevsteimle):Always Dreaming-Classic Empire-Lookin at Lee

Always Dreaming impressed me in the slop at the Kentucky Derby. I think he has even more in the tank and will run even better on a good track. Classic Empire had a rough trip in the Kentucky Derby. He had to deal with traffic and getting bumped, yet still ended up fourth. I think he'll give Always Dreaming all he can handle.  Looking at Lee is being overlooked. Lookin At Lee lost by a mere 2 3/4 lengths at Churchill Downs to Always Dreaming.

Josh Newman (@Joshua_Newman): Classic Empire-Always Dreaming-Cloud Computing

Classic Empire ruins the day for NYRA officials hoping for a Triple Crown bid. Cloud Computing, currently at 12-1 with Chad Brown and Javier Castellano as the jockey, gets everyone paid on the trifecta. Also, FYI. Pimlico? Pimlico is a dump. Trust me.

Steven Falk (@smfalk): Always Dreaming, Cloud Computing, Classic Empire

Not a great betting race because there will be an odds-on favorite in Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming and a very well-bet second choice in Classic Empire, who the whole world k…
