When death and destruction come calling

When death and destruction come calling
  1. When death and destruction come calling
On a warm April afternoon, 2 USAA members were driving back from a medical appointment. Clouds and thunder shook the ground with swaying trees. After completing the 45 minute drive, the safety and security of home was a nice change. At 2:15 I spoke with my sister as she discussed the trip with my mother. Living 4 hours away, I cherished the small tale of her day. When our conversation was over, I had no idea what was to come. I miss her now, and I truly am prideful of our time on this…

I miss her now, and I truly am prideful of our time on this planet. nearing 4 PM I received a call from another USAA member, telling me that they couldn’t locate the two from this story. My mother, and my sister were both missing. In a panic, I was reaching others from the small town, all were saying its gone. The town is gone. I left work in Atlanta, and speeded back to my little piece of heaven that I grew to love in my youth. I arrived after dark, pitch black, with fresh scenes of torn lives along the way. Birmingham was trashed, trees, sirens, and flashing lights littered my path. but this arrival was different. The yard of my mother's home was barren. No shrubs, no shadows of life, just clutter of metal and stone. the path from behind my mother's to my old home where my Sister and cousin lived was also stripped, colorless, and blanked. Only the shadows of the front steps with a faint outline of foundation bricks marked where my home used to stand.

When daylight broke, a few cars were found in the mangled metal among the large tree roots 3 football fields from where they were parked. We found them, My mother was unrecognizable but living. A neighbor found her with matted hair, confusion and severe head trauma, and broken bones. He had already taken her to he nearest hospital before I arrived. due to my respect for her being stripped of all clothing and many unmentionable issues I wont go into any additional detail on this post. For my dearest sister Vickie and cousin Tina, they were not as lucky as her.

With daylight, other family members arrived to help collect and centralize our memories. I was handing out money for food, gas, and equipment rental on the spot. With no concern of my own finances, and care of the value of money anyway. After using a friends wrecker, we pulled the warped autos and trucks back to the property. I called USAA at 9 Am, I cant remember the compassion, or responses. I must have blanked that out of my memory that day. But I do remember that a new white USAA car arrived at 2 PM. It was dispatched from Tuscaloosa. I had no idea that Tuscaloosa was hit as well. That man, a USAA employee, will forever be burned into my memory. I dont know if he was a victim as well, or he just had the heart of an angel. He settled on the spot, for the automobiles. Knowing it would help us with our little operation.

As a veteran, a solider trained to focus on a mission in the worst environment possible, Personal concern is not allowed. It cannot interfere with the mission. atop the hill, a portable camper stood, next to folding tables, food, and a power generator humming along, A large tractor trailer broke the barren hilltop with its dark square outline. It was calm to me. A soothing reminder of my time in Mosul. My own little TOC was accomplishing its goals. Volunteers on the ground, working diligently to look for all signs of life, recovering my n…

I'm appalled to learn that USAA has pulled its advertising from Hannity's program, not so much because I'm a Hannity fan but rather because this decision was obviously made because of a campaign orchestrated by Media Matters and other like groups.  That campaign evidently was intended to suppress media coverage of questions surrounding the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich.  The timing of the decision gives the game away, and the lame excuse that "we don't sponsor opinion shows"…

In the tradition of the Clintonometer and the Trump Apocalypse Watch, the Impeach-O-Meter is a wildly subjective and speculative daily estimate of the likelihood that Donald Trump leaves office before his term ends, whether by being impeached (and convicted) or by resigning under threat of same. Montana's suddenly violent special House election appears set to end with victory for Republican and amateur wrestler Greg Gianforte. From what we know so far, though, Gianforte is probably only…
