ANAHEIM >> The much hyped “Star Wars”-themed land will be called “Galaxy’s Edge.”

On Saturday, July 15 Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek unveiled the official name of the 14-acre lands that are under construction at Disneyland in Anaheim and Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fl.

Construction began in 2016 with completion slated in 2019.

Chapek made this announcement and more on future rides and attractions at Disney’s theme parks around the world during the Parks and Resorts panel on the second day of the company’s D23 Expo fan convention at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Just two days ago, his team of Disney Imagineers presented a 50-foot wide detailed model of the land and outlined some of its features to media and fans.

“The name represents everything that you will experience here,” Chapek said.

The naming of the land

Galaxy’s Edge, described as a planet on the Outer Rim in “Star Wars” lore, is the largest themed expansion in Disneyland’s 60-plus year history. It’ll sit on the northern edge of the park with three entrances, and features a lush forest, rocky terrain, and buildings inspired by architecture in the “Star Wars” films.
