It was 2 a.m. Saturday morning when police say a man climbed atop Salmon Runner, one of the sculptures in downtown Sioux Falls' Sculpture Walk, breaking a piece off its side.

Unfortunately for him — but fortunately for the battered bear — an off-duty police officer was standing nearby at the corner of West 11th Street and South Phillips Avenue.

Casey Schmidt, 24, was charged with intentional damage to property after police say his antics knocked off one of the metal fish on the bear's side.
