Remember that 2012 Sports Illustrated cover featuring Steve Nash and Dwight Howard together in those classic purple and gold uniforms for the first time? Displayed prominently between them was the caption "Now this is going to be fun."

No, it was not fun. Not for the Lakers, not for their fans and definitely not for Howard.

The 2012-13 season, which began with championship aspirations in Los Angeles after the Lakers acquired Nash and Howard via separate trades, ended with a 45-37 record and a first-round sweep at the hands of the Spurs. It was a tumultuous season (to put it lightly) marred by injuries and drama, most notably regarding the relationship between Howard and Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

After his unceremonious departures from Orlando, LA, Houston and now Atlanta, Howard has been unable to dodge questions about his past. In a Twitter Q&A session Sunday, Howard tried to bury the Kobe beef by placing blame at the feet of the media.

While Howard has been consistent with his message — he told The Undefeated in March he "never had an issue" with Bryant — past reports don't exactly align with Howard's recollection of his time alongside Bryant. Howard reportedly mocked Bryant behind his back about his shooting numbers and wanted the Lakers to either amnesty or "muzzle" Bryant in order for him to re-sign with the Lakers after the season. Howard ultimately signed with the Rockets after his one-year stint in LA.

Bryant gave his side of the story in 2015, telling USA Today that Howard was "uncomfortable" with the realities players face in a championship locker room.

"For me, it's about making sure the Lakers have the right person in place who's going to carry this franchise," Bryant said. "I tried teaching Dwight. I tried showing him. But the reality is that when you have a perception of what it is to win a championship — and most perceptions of what it's like to win are a very outgoing, very gregarious locker room where you pick each other up and you're friends all the time. That's the perception. And I think that's what his perception was of w…
