Anti-Israel momentum in US A growing number of politicians in the US are turning against Israel. A Democratic Senator from New York has officially withdrawn her support from the "Israel Anti-Boycott Act" after civil rights groups condemned it for having a what they called "chilling effect" on free speech. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was one of the bill's original co-sponsors, and her withdrawal could lead other Democratic Senators and members of Congress to take a similar step. A number of Democrats have already said they are re-examining their support for the bill, which is supported by pro-Israel lobby group AIPAC. Meanwhile, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, one of the leading progressive voices within the Democratic Party, has opposed the Israel Anti-Boycott Act. Civil rights groups warn that the bill could hurt free speech.
