Yountville’s Festival of Lights is no more. Long live Holidays in Yountville.

What had been the resort village’s one-day street festival kicking off the Christmas season for nearly three decades will expand, starting this November, into a diverse slate of activities that promoters hope will draw in families, tourists and others to Yountville – from just before Thanksgiving, through Yuletide and on to Jan. 1.

The rebadged “Holidays in Yountville: The Brightest Town in Napa Valley” both replaces and expands on the Festival of Lights the town had hosted since 1989 on the day after Thanksgiving.

Starting Nov. 20, the campaign organized by the Yountville Chamber of Commerce will blend longtime Christmastime diversions like horse-carriage rides and Santa’s Workshop with additions like a holiday movie series at the Lincoln Theater, according to Whitney McEvoy, the chamber’s executive director.

Yountville’s holiday-themed lighting of shops and buildings will return, but this winter will be seen by a larger audience than ever, she said last week.

“The goal is to give visitors as well as locals an opportunity to visit Yountville – stroll through our town, see all the lights and really enjoy all that Yountville has to offer: the wine tastings, the restaurants, the art,” McEvoy said in a Wednesday interview.

Holidays in Yountville will formally begin Nov. 20, when decorative lighting will be switched on along Washington Street and its buildings and trees. The campaign will then encompass attractions carried over from previous years such as downtown carriage rides, the Lincoln Theater’s performances of “The Nutcracker” ballet and Santa’s Workshop, a Sunday morning gathering in early December for families to make Christmas ornaments, enjoy Yuletide music and meet Saint Nick.

New to Yountville’s holiday schedule will be the film series, which will become the season’s second set of events to be hosted at the Lincoln Theater.
