ASHBURN — Redskins tight end Jordan Reed sat out of practice Wednesday because of his rib cartilage injury and a SC joint ligament strain. Reed suffered the injuries during the Redskins’ 27-20 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.

“The plan is we’ve got to get him healthy and the concern is he’s not healthy right now,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said.

It’s yet another injury for the Redskins tight end, who missed the team’s training camp in Richmond with a toe injury. Reed has had 13 other injuries, based on data from the website Sports Injury Predictor, since being drafted in 2013.

Gruden said Reed was coming off his best game “in quite a while” against the Rams. The 27-year-old had six catches for 48 yards against the Rams.

“Not only his route running, but he was outstanding in his run blocking,” Gruden said. “He had a key block on the touchdown Chris Thompson had on the second series of the game. He was physical.”

The SC joint sprain is different from the AC joint sprain Reed dealt with last season. Reed was hurt during his two touchdown performance against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving. He had trouble putting his T-shirt on postgame and needed a teammate to help him accomplish the job.

He missed the following week with the injury and later the Redskins’ game on Christmas Eve against the Chicago Bears.

Reed left the game against the Rams last Sunday, but returned late in the fourth quarter.

Also, the following players were limited in practice with injuries: Rob Kelley (rib), Montae Nicholson (shoulder), Josh Norman (shoulder), Mason Foster (shoulder), Deshazor Everett (knee) and Moses Morgan (ankle/shoulder).

Full participants were Spencer Long (knee), Chris Thompson (back) and Josh Doctson (hamstring).

“Compared to other Wednesdays, it sucks,” Norman said. “I’m not going to lie to you. … We’ll be alright come game day, I feel like.”

The Cleveland Browns are one of a handful of teams that have a great shot at landing the top overall pick in next year’s draft, but veteran offensive lineman Joe Thomas finds it laughable that fans think an NFL team would lose games on purpose. Many believe USC quarterback Sam Darnold is a can’t-miss NFL prospect — one that is so good rebuilding teams would tank for him. Thomas said that is never a good idea in football.“It’s always fun for fans and the media to have that narrative because i…

There are plenty of reasons to expect its defense can take advantage of a weak opponent. On a west coast road trip, don’t count out a bumbling Baltimore Ravens squad just yet. Through the first quarter of the 2017 season, Pittsburgh Steelers signal caller Ben Roethlisberger simply hasn’t been the same player. It might not show in the team’s AFC North-best 3-1 record, but Big Ben’s regression has been more than eye-opening.Heck, it might not even show up in the basic stats. Roethlisberger is completing 63 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He’s also on pace to put up over 3,800 passing yards for an offense that ranks in the middle of …
