Worried about a Seahawks’ offense that has just one touchdown in 21 possessions this season and ranks near the bottom third of the league in most statistical categories?

As might be expected, quarterback Russell Wilson isn’t.

When the Seattle quarterback held his regular weekly meeting with the media on Thursday Wilson accentuated the positive, noting that the Seahawks might have gotten off to a big lead against the 49ers had the team converted on two early scoring opportunities (dropped passes helped turn potential touchdowns into field goals).

Wilson has somewhat of a point — the Seahawks have five possessions inside the 20, which ranks 21st in the NFL, but have scored a touchdown on just one of them, 20 percent, which ranks 28th. The only TD came in the fourth quarter Sunday to clinch a 12-9 win over the 49ers. Wilson thinks if a couple of those field goal attempts had turned into touchdowns people would be thinking differently about the Seahawks right now.

“I think we’re a few plays away,” Wilson said. “If you go back to the Green Bay game, we had a few plays we could’ve made there. In this past game, we could’ve been up pretty quickly, and we have all the confidence in the world in what we’re doing and in our players and coaches and what we’re trying to do. It’s also good to win close games; everybody wants to win by 40. (But) this is the National Football League, this isn’t one of those things that it’s just easy to go out there and just win every game by 40 or something like that. You want to be able to win the close games, you want to be able to (withstand) and stretch and strain and mentally be able to go throughout the game and take on the challenge and overcome. We’ve always been able to find a way to do that, and I think at the end of the day that winners find a way to win. That’s our mentality.”

Seattle’s passing game has been among the aspects of the offense to be a little disjointed so far. The Seahawks’ passer rating of 76.3 ranks 25th in the NFL and the Seahawks’ yards per attempt of 5.4 is 30th.

While the drops and an offensive line that has had protection issues leading to the team emphasizing a quick passing game against the 49ers has contributed, Wilson has also simply missed on a few throws.

“I think it’s all of us just trying to come down and come…
